ABOUT LEGADO AND THEIR PLANS FOR PLAYA DEL REY
Legado Companies proposes to build a 48’ building ( with additional 10’ architectural features) 72 unit apartment building with 7,500 sq. ft. of retail space at 138 Culver Blvd. ( The Jake’s lot), with one level of subterranean parking.
The property was purchased by Legado in 2007.
In 2011 Legado proposed a 45’ building with 65 units and two levels of subterranean parking.
The community strongly opposed this. Legado refused to reduce the height and density of the project.
The project resurfaced in 2013 with a proposed 56’ building, 72 apartments and 15,000 sq. ft. of retail space and two levels of subterranean parking.
The community strongly opposed this, our Councilmember Mike Bonin came out publicly on several occasions and opposed this project as proposed.
The community circulated petitions, held public demonstrations, showed up and spoke up at numerous public meetings
and hearings, strongly voicing their opposition.
Legado refused to reduce the height and density of the project.
In March 2018 the City of Los Angeles Planning Department approved the project at 48’ with 72 units and one level of subterranean parking.
Several community members appealed the decision to the Planning Department.
We are currently awaiting the date of the Appeals Hearing, which we expect to be held the latter part of June.
The City of Los Angeles Planning Department is being very uncooperative in providing the community with meeting details.
Through multiple emails acquired, we are now aware the City of Los Angeles Planning Department is in regular communication with Legado.
Community members have had to file Freedom of Information Act requests to get information that should be readily available to the public.
